The Kochi IPL franchiseehas finally made an official announcement regarding the teamname. The Facebook page of the Kochi IPLfranchisee on Wednesday bore the official announcement that the team will henceforth be known as the ‘Indi Commandos’.
“We hereby announce the official name for your beloved Kochi IPL team!” was the post on their wall.
After much initial hiccups regarding legal issues with the Board of Cricket Control of India(BCCI), the Kochi IPL franchisee now can breathe a sigh of relief and the Indi Commandos can very well play in the 2011 IPL series. The new franchisee was bought for 1533.32 crores, by Rendezvous Sports World in the IPL auctions held on March 2010. The Kochi Cricket Pvt Ltd now owns the Kochi IPL franchisee. But since its very inception, the franchisee landed in troubled waters that lead to national news & the controversy also landed in the resignation of a minister. The controversy finally ended on 5th of December last year & it was confirmed that the Kochi IPL franchisee will be a part of the 4thseason of IPL in 2011.
Along with the new name, Indi Commandos now also sports a new logo. Their Facebook page showed off the new logo & explained the reason behind naming the team as Indi Commandos. The ‘Indi’ in the name suggests a team that will be capable of independently winning the hearts of a billion Indians when they play in the twenty-20 IPL 2011 season.
And the word ‘COMMANDOS’ is a synonym for “an elite fighting squad, renown for attacking with speed, stealth and deadly power.” The Indi Commandos happens to be the last of the new franchisee to get a name. it along with the Sahara Pune Warriors make up the newadditions to the existing teams.
